We\u2019re passionate about proficiency and believe that ongoing training\nand education will help keep the skies safer for everyone.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\nrecently asked our followers on social media, \u201cWhat\u2019s a tip that made you a\nbetter pilot?\u201d Gathering their input, we put together this list of the top flight\nsafety tips that have resonated with the general aviation community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#1. Any successful flight starts with thoughtful\nand precise preparation. <\/strong>Inadequate preflight planning and inspections can lead to disaster.\nFollow your <a href=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/commonly-missed-preflight-items\/\">preflight checklists<\/a> carefully and pay attention\nto easily overlooked items, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/news-events\/videos\/repair-and-maintenance\/?id=15499\">aircraft propeller<\/a>. Resist the urge to rush\nthrough your checklist, take shortcuts, or become complacent in your preflight\nroutine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#2: Prioritize your tasks. <\/strong>Task saturation is a common\nproblem for general aviation pilots, especially when dealing with inclement\nweather. When your task load gets too high, especially in an emergency, remember\nto \u201caviate, navigate, communicate.\u201d First and foremost, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/news\/safety_briefing\/2018\/media\/SE_Topic_18-07.pdf\">fly the airplane<\/a>. Then, only once the airplane\nis in control, turn your attention to navigating and communicating with ATC or\npassengers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#3: Fly the airplane as far through the\ncrash as possible. <\/strong>This\npiece of timeless advice originated from Bob Hoover, who was instrumental in\nthe field of air safety. Hoover\u2019s wise words remind us that when faced with an\nemergency, always maintain control of the airplane for as long as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#4: If in doubt, there is no doubt: Don\u2019t\nrisk it. <\/strong>Before\nyou take to the skies, give yourself an assessment to determine your overall\nreadiness to fly. Run through the \u201cI\u2019M SAFE\u201d checklist, which stands for\nillness, medication, stress, alcohol, fatigue, and emotion. If you have any\ndoubts about your mental or physical health before a flight, don\u2019t risk it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>#5: Don\u2019t let get-there-itis get the best\nof you. <\/strong>Even\nthe most experienced pilots can slip up and disregard warnings, instinct, and\ncommon sense in an effort to reach their destinations on time. If you find\nyourself in this situation, remember another common pilot tip: It\u2019s better to\nbe on the ground wishing you were in the air than to be in the air wishing you\nwere on the ground.
