A\nstaple of AirVenture Oshkosh is the Pilot Proficiency Center (PPC), an on-site\nskill-building area for pilots of all experience levels, even beginners.\nNormally, the PPC is filled with dozens of Redbird<\/a> flight simulators, giving pilots a chance to try challenging IFR and\nVFR mission exercises alongside volunteer Certified Flight Instructors. Each\nyear, participation has grown as pilots and aviation fans flock to the center\nto increase their knowledge and hone their flying skills.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since\nAirVenture 2020 was unfortunately called off due to COVID-19, the PPC is moving\nto a new, virtual format. The PPC team has worked hard to recreate the same\nquality simulation experience featured at Oshkosh. Here\u2019s how it will work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remote instruction powered by Redbird<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Redbird Flight\nSimulators recently developed the new Redbird Connect platform<\/a>,\nwhich transforms Redbird simulators into a remote training platform. Using ZOOM\nvideo conferencing, instructors can watch participants fly the simulation\nmission and provide guidance and feedback. With Redbird Connect, it\u2019s now possible\nfor pilots and instructors to come together for quality simulator training from\nanywhere in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you\u2019ll need<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To participate in a\nremote training session, you\u2019ll need an internet connection and access to a\nRedbird simulator with up-to-date software, either at home or at one of the 14\nparticipating Flight Training Centers<\/a>\nacross the USA. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set up a laptop, tablet,\nor smartphone with the camera facing the Redbird device so the instructor can\nsee you and the flight controls on ZOOM. An iPhone on a tripod will work. The\ninstructor will also log onto the sim with Redbird Connect, which allows them\nto view your performance, configuration, and navigation data in real-time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can choose among 13\nVFR or IFR simulation missions to complete during the 90-minute training\nsession. Each mission offers a combination of exercises and scenarios, all of\nwhich are challenging and fun to fly! When you complete the sim mission, the\ninstructor will provide a complete debriefing with CloudAhoy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
