{"id":20700,"date":"2020-09-23T14:16:28","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T18:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/?p=20700"},"modified":"2020-09-23T14:16:28","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T18:16:28","slug":"blog-operation-thank-you-general-aviation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/blog-operation-thank-you-general-aviation\/","title":{"rendered":"GA Pilots Invited to Participate in Relay Flight  Honoring Health Care Heroes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new\ninitiative is taking flight to lift spirits and honor everyday heroes amid the\ncoronavirus pandemic. <a href=\"http:\/\/spiritoflibertyfoundation.org\/portfolio-items\/the-relay-in-the-sky\/\">America\u2019s Operation\nThank You: The Relay in the Sky<\/a>, organized by the Spirit of Liberty\nFoundation, invites General Aviation operators to participate in a relay flight\nacross all 50 states as a way for aviators to thank health care professionals\nand first responders on the front lines of the health crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The coast-to-coast flight will start in San Diego on September 24 and end in Washington, D.C. on October 30. The five-week relay consists of 98 short flight legs, with three volunteer aircraft planned for each leg.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At\nevery stop, groups of doctors, nurses, caregivers, first responders, and local\nofficials will gather to greet the incoming flight and honor health care\nworkers with a brief ceremony. A composite three-foot-tall torch and\n\u201cHealthcare Heroes\u201d flag will be handed off to the next pilot in the relay.\n(Commercial airliners are transporting the torch and flag to Alaska and\nHawaii.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operation Thank You is supported by aviation industry leaders including the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), Commemorative Air Force (CAF), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), as well as several major FBOs. The American Hospital Association is supporting the effort by assembling doctors, nurses, and medical staff to greet flights and participate in the ceremonies at each stop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will culminate with a closing\nceremony featuring over 100 healthcare heroes and first responders carrying the\ntorch and flag from the U.S. Capitol down the National Mall to the White House.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more about the event and see the route map <a href=\"http:\/\/spiritoflibertyfoundation.org\/portfolio-items\/the-relay-in-the-sky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">here<\/a>.
