But before you do, it\u2019s important to prep your aircraft and ensure it\u2019s in tip-top shape for another busy flying season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have a few tips to get you started:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#1: Spring Clean Your Airplane (and Propeller!)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the spirit of spring cleaning, now\u2019s a great time to freshen up your aircraft inside and out. Start by washing the exterior of your airplane to remove any insects, dirt, or dust that may have accumulated during storage. We recommend cleaning your aircraft propeller using a mild solution of dish soap and water. (Just make sure to wash the blades in a downward direction to ensure soapy water doesn\u2019t run into the propeller hub!)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to the interior, remove any trash, vacuum thoroughly, and wipe down surfaces. This is a good time to check the logbooks and records \u2014 including your <a href=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/services\/product-support-library\/manuals\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/services\/product-support-library\/manuals\/\">propeller owner\u2019s manual and logbook<\/a>. If your prop is approaching TBO, schedule your overhaul service at the <a href=\"https:\/\/hartzellservicecenter.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/hartzellservicecenter.com\/\">Hartzell Service Center<\/a> or one of the shops in our <a href=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/services\/overhaul-and-repair-services\/hartzell-global-services-network\/\">Hartzell Global Services<\/a> network. You could also choose from one of the independently-owned facilities in our <a href=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/services\/overhaul-and-repair-services\/recommended-service-facilities\/\">Recommended Service Facilities<\/a> (RSF) network. Being proactive about any service means you can avoid prolonged downtime and make the most of the summer flying season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#2: Inspect Carefully<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A pre-flight inspection is always recommended, but if your aircraft has been sitting for weeks or months, it\u2019s even more important to carefully check for any surface damage or mechanical issues. Here are a few key signs to watch for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Hangar rash<\/strong>, which can occur on the wings, cowling, propeller blades, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leaks <\/strong>in rubber hoses or around seals and gaskets.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nicks, cracks, or gouges <\/strong>on your propeller blades<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chipped paint<\/strong>, including on your propeller blades<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Missing or loose <\/strong>hardware<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Signs of wildlife<\/strong> such as chewed wires and rodent droppings, feathers or fur in your cabin or cowling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Water or foreign matter<\/strong> in the fuel system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Worn-down or underinflated<\/strong> tires<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"741\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KevinRyan.png\" alt=\"Hartzell service technician inspects a composite aircraft propeller\" class=\"wp-image-16078\" style=\"width:677px;height:332px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KevinRyan.png 741w, https:\/\/hartzellprop.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/KevinRyan-300x147.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 741px) 100vw, 741px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you notice any damage to your aircraft propeller, don\u2019t ignore it.
