PIQUA, Ohio — August 10, 1994 — Hartzell has been selected to supply five-bladed propeller systems for the Antonov An-28PT aircraft being assembled by PZL Mielec in Poland. The aluminum blade\/steel hub Hartzell systems will be fitted to two Pratt & Whitney PT6A-65B turboprop engines of 1100 HP.<\/p>\n
The new props weigh only 14 lbs. (6 kg) more than the original three-bladed units despite the addition of two extra blades. Overall the new powerplant sections (engine and prop) will provide an additional 600 HP, reduced weight, greater acceleration and thrust, higher climb rates, smoother overall operation and reduced cabin noise levels.<\/p>\n
Hartzell’s five-blade design is already a proven performer functioning in a similar role on turboprop Shorts 330s and 360s, converted Douglas DC-3s, as well as numerous other aircraft.<\/p>\n
Hartzell’s blade airfoils for the An-28PT are designed to maximize low speed thrust. The result is improved performance for take-off and climb … an important part of the flight profile of cargo\/freight aircraft which may operate out of remote, unimproved airfields.<\/p>\n
